Introducing Broken Staff Studios
Why We Started
The idea for Broken Staff Studios came into being in early 2000`s due to the lack of old school style roleplaying games being made by big game studios, aka Big GameDev
The bar had been set low in terms of quality rpgs, we felt we can do better by making our own games than waiting for large companies to target a segment they don’t see as profitable.
Since then a number of small studios and individual developers have stepped up and the crpg scene is in the middle of a revival. These are exciting times and Broken Staff Studios is proud to be a part of them – first and foremost as gamers and then as game developers.
Our Values
We promise to:
- Admit our shortcomings and learn from them.
- Be open and transparent in our dealings.
- Treat gamers as people and not as faceless dollar signs like Big GameDev.
- Support other indie game developers.
- Use open source tools whenever possible.
- Ten years after a game is released we will release all copyrights on it so fans can use it as they wish.
- Not use DRM or copy protection that punishes our customers for the immoral actions of non-customers.
- Make games that are entertaining and don`t ram ideology down our customers throats.
We plan to make games that are:
- Fun.
- Replayable.
- Easy to mod.
- Not dumbed down. They should be easy to use but we don’t think are our fans are stupid and need a mindless button mashing experience.
Our Plans
We will also do our best to build up the indie crpg game industry by passing on what we have learned.
What we have in the works:
- An open source CRPG system that will serve as the backbone of future projects.
- A mini game to grow our skills and serve as a starting point for future work. Like a short story compared to a novel, you have to start somewhere.
- A secret project we are gearing up a pitch for using a third party developers system. We will let you know if something comes of it.
- A number of free mods to help make some existing games more enjoyable and put our own stamp on them.
